At Stand Together Ventures Lab (STVL), we believe that society’s greatest challenges are entrepreneurs’ greatest opportunities. Since our inception in 2020, STVL has invested in 20 companies solving critical challenges in healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and criminal justice. We are stage and capital structure agnostic, stemming from the view that entrepreneurs need investors with flexibility to partner throughout the company-building journey.
The Role:
We’re adding an experienced investor to our team. This person will be responsible for thesis development and new investment origination in one of our core areas of focus: education (K-12, post-secondary, and/or future of work). Apart from building and managing a portfolio within a particular area of focus, this individual will also contribute to improving our underwriting, investment committee process, and general network development.
Your Responsibilities Include
- Investment thesis development – Own the development of investment theses in one of our core areas of focus (K-12 or post-secondary education + future of work).
- New investment origination – Cultivate extensive networks of entrepreneurs, investors, and subject matter experts to drive a strong pipeline of investable opportunities.
- Make investment recommendations to Investment Committee – Make formal recommendations to Investment Committee based on thesis and pipeline.
- Portfolio management – Maintain value-add relationships with founders/CEOs as the portfolio grows and partner with colleagues on portfolio reporting and portfolio support resources.
Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization
- 5+ years of direct investing experience in early-stage companies, or startup experience with responsibility over company financing.
- Ability to independently underwrite investments and mentor a growing team in diligence best-practices.
- A strong investor and entrepreneur network, especially in areas that are core to our mandate (e.g. healthcare, education, workforce, etc.).
- A contribution mindset: An inherent focus on improving our business and adding value, regardless of whether the work is “typically” included in the job description. Over time, we expect this to include recruitment and development of other investment professionals.
